Get out into the unspoilt jungle in the less trekked Samoeng area. Shan and Karen hill tribes all feature on this three day trekking adventure in the lovely Samoeng area. Get the most out of the trekking experience with 3 days and 2 nights trekking in the jungle. This is just right for those who want to get away from it all for a few days and get to see real hill tribe life.
You will be collected from your Chiang Mai hotel and we will proceed to drive towards the Samoeng area. On route we will stop by at the local market where the guide will buy some fresh supplies for the trip into the hills. The drive will continue to a small elephant camp where you will start your morning's activities with the elephants. You will have some time feeding and getting to know the elephants before joining (optional!) the elephants in their faviourite mud pools! After the mud it will be time to get clean and you will walk the elephants to the river to bath and scrub the elephants and join them cooling off in the river. At the end of the morning it will be time to say goodbye to the elephants and lunch will be had at the elephant camp. After lunch it will be time to start the trekking. You will trek for around three hours through the jungle stopping for a refreshing shower/swim at a waterfall. Our final destination of the day will be at a White Karen hill tribe village. This village will be where you overnight and you guide will prepare your evening meal. Enjoy the evening with your guide and fellow trekkers.
The local roosters will usually ensure that you arise early in the morning for your breakfast which will be prepared for you by your guide. After breakfast we will set off for the mornings trek through jungle, rice paddies and rural scenes. We will trek to a red Karen Village where the guide will prepare lunch for you. The last leg of the days trekking will be to the bamboo camp by the waterfall where you will spend the night and the guide will prepare the evening meal.
After awaking at the waterfall camp we will trek out of the jungle to a Shan village the waiting transportation will take you to the bamboo rafting station for bamboo rafting where you can sit back and relax on the bamboo rafts or try your hand at piloting one yourself down river. Wear light clothes as trekking in this part of the world can be hot and sweaty work. Shorts, T shirt and a sun hat are ideal. Long trousers are OK as they will protect your lower legs more but will be hotter to wear. Although hiking boots aren’t a necessity at least a sturdy pair of running shoes should be worn. Some people trek with sandals but they do leave your feet open to be scratched by vegetation also flip flops (thongs) aren’t appropriate as they don't provide enough support. In the rainy season from April to October bring a rain coat. Bring a change of clothes for after the rafting. Please be sensitive about your dress in the hill tribe village short and t shirts are OK but nothing to revealing please.
A small rucksack/day sack, shorts and T shirt for trekking (long trousers if you prefer), A change of clothes (shorts & t shirt) especially useful in the wet season to change into at the end of the day, warm jumper/fleece for cool season, Walking shoes, socks, swimming suit, small towel/sarong, insect spray, sun cream, raincoat (rainy season), some toilet paper, one bottle of water. Some money for drinks and hill tribe crafts. No bedding or sleeping bags are required as we supply all the necessary sleeping equipment.
Free pick up and drop off is included to and from any Chiang Mai city hotel. Sorry we can not pick up from out of town resorts.
