This 3-day package will take in all the city highlights of Chiang Mai before heading north for an extended overnight trip to Chiang Rai where you will see the stunning Wat Rong Khun as well as all the other highlights Chiang Rai province has to offer.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1 Chiang Mai City Tour

Get ready for an early start on day one of this three-day package as we need to get out into the city early to catch the monks go about their early morning alms rounds. You will get to see the lively city of Chiang Mai at this early hour as the city's population goes about its morning business. Amongst the hustle of the morning market, you will get to offer alms (make food offerings) to the monks as they go about their morning alms round. The next part of the morning tour will be to take the winding road up the mountain to Chiang Mai's most prominent and important Temple Doi Suthep. In the morning you will enjoy a more calm and cool visit to this spectacular temple as you will miss the tourist crowds and avoid the heat of the day. After the temple, you will head down the mountain where you will be provided with a local breakfast. After breakfast, we will take in a couple more of the cities interesting temples. You will see Wat Chedi Luang which was once Chiang Mai's highest structure and we will see Wat Srisuphan which is at the heart of the silver-making area on Wualai Rd. Our final stop of the day will be a Warorot Market to see firsthand one of the commercial areas frequented by locals in their droves to purchase fresh and dried food items of all descriptions. As you were awake at an early hour you may be ready to be returned to your hotel this can be arranged however if you did want to extend your tour into the afternoon we can arrange a visit to The Chiang Mai Art and Culture Museum, This local museum lies at the heart of Chiang Mai. Various exhibits are offered in this recently refurbished museum detailing the historic Lanna way of life.

Day 2 - Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai

On day two you will be collected from your Chiang Mai hotel and depart on a northern route towards Chiang Dao where we will stop to see the Chiang Dao cave system. We will take a special lamp-lit tour into the deep and dark caverns that this cave offers. Will will then visit the multi-tired Thaton Temple which will afford views over the Burma jungle as well as down the Mae Kok river valley towards Chiang Rai. A sumptuous buffet lunch will be taken on the banks of the Mae Kok river before boarding the bus to drive towards the Karen Long Neck village. We will then drive on up into the mountains stopping at an Akha village and then on up to the Chinese community on Doi Mae Salong where the air is cool and you will see the cultivation of tea and visit the mountain top Wat Santikhiri Temple which affords amazing views over the town of Doi Mae Salong and beyond!. We will arrive at your hotel in Chiang Rai in the evening and you will have a chance to freshen up before a visit to Chiang Rai Night Bazaar, this is an excellent spot for some craft shopping as well as a good place to try some local Thai food while enjoying the entertainments.

Day 3 - Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai

On the final day of this three-day package, you will be collected from your Chiang Rai hotel and begin the day with a visit to the historic Chiang Sean on the banks of the Mekong River where we will see Wat Chedi Luang a remnant temple from the kingdom which used to occupy this site. A short drive further up the river will bring you to the famed Golden Triangle area meeting points of Burma, Laos, and Thailand. Here you will have the option to ride a boat on the Mekong River to get a closer look at Myanmar and stop on the Laos Island of Don Sao. Next is the Thai border town of Mae Sai and its bustling border market. On our way back to Chiang Mai, we will stop by the White Temple. (Wat Rong Khun) and Mae Khajan hot springs before transferring you back to your Chiang Mai hotel.

Doi Tung Option - We can visit Mae Fah Luang Gardens at Doi Tung on day 3 if required. However to fit this is our busy schedule for the day we will need to make an early departure and be on the road by 07:30 am! 

Note: You will be required to show your original passport if you want to take the boat ride on the Mekong to the Laos side. Please bring this with you if you want to take this option.
