A two day tour of Chiang Rai which also includes spending some time with some very happy elephants at Chiang Rai's Elephant Valley. Wat Rong khun (White Temple) and the Golden Triangle alos feature on this 2 day tour of Chiang Rai.
Day 1 - Chiang Mai to Chiang RaiOur two day trip to Chiang Rai will begin with an early start. We will depart the city of Chiang Mai and head north over the mountains to Chiang Rai. On route we will take an early morning coffee break at Mae Kha Jan Hot Springs to take a break from the driving. The driving will continue for a further while as we approach our first main stop of the day, Elephant Valley Chiang Rai. On arrival at Elephant Valley you will be handed over into the hands of the knowledgeable staff at this special elephant sanctuary where you will be informed about the lives of elephants in Thailand and about the elephants residing at this small sanctuary. This sanctuary offers exceptionally high elephant welfare standards and you will be able to observe and spend time with these splendid animals in a very natural habitat. After The elephant sanctuary we will visit the now very famous Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) before proceeding to Chiang Rai to take our lunch by the Kok River. After lunch we will head out of town to visit Wat Rong Sear Tean (Blue Temple) and then on to Baan Dam (Black House museum). At the end of the first day you will be transferred to your chosen accommodation in Chiang Rai

Day 2 - Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai
Day two commences with your pick up at your Chiang Rai hotel and you will drive out of the city in a northely direction. The first stop of the day will be at the karen long neck hill tribe village where you can see the karen women fold who wear the brass rings around the necks. The tour will comntinue with a drive up into the mountains to vist the Mae Fah Luang Garden at Doi Tung. The air is usauly a lot cooler up here than on the plians below which usually allows a cmfortable storll among these lovely gardens. Our next stop before lunch will be at the border town at Mae Sai where you can vist the busy border market. Lunch will be taken by the Mekong River before choosing to take the option of a boat ride across to the Laos side. The boat will drop you off at The Golden Traingle the point of thatilnd where it meets both Laos and Myanmar on the confluence of 2 rivers (one being the Mekong). The Golden triangle is a popular photo point and after you have taken you snaps you can vist the small opium museum. Our drive back to Chiang Mai will start from there and we will drop into wat Chedi Lunag Temple as we pass the old city of Chiang saen. The trip to Chianhan Mag will continue and to break up the lengthy journey home we will stop by at The Charin Garden coffee Riverside shop, where you can take a late afternoon coffee (grown in the surrounding hills) and try one of the amazing homemade cakes! On this tour we can arrange a short crossing by boat across the Mekong to the small Laos settlement of Don Xao. In Don Xao there is a small tourist market where some Laos souvenirs and goods can be found. From the beginning of 2015 a passport will be required if you want to take the Mekong boat trip to the Laos island of Don Xao (before a passport was not required) Please bring your passport if you want to do this option. Please also note that no exit or entry visas will be stamped in your passport and if you do cross onto the island of Don Xao your Thai visa will be unaffected. A small landing fee of 20 baht is usually collected by Laos authorities.
On this tour we can arrange a short crossing into Burma from the Thai town of Mae Sai. On the Burmese side there is a bustling border market where you can spend 30-45 minutes. For the Crossing you will require your passport and a Burmese visa which is available at the Burmese immigration post and can be obtained on the day (current price is 500 baht/person). Please note that if you do cross into Burma your current Thai visa will be cancelled. On crossing back to Thailand you will be stamped with a 15 day visa only. Please ensure that 15 days is enough to cover the rest of your holiday plans in Thailand.
If you require a visit to Chiang Rai Night Bazaar for your evening meal and shopping please request this from the guide. The guide and driver will transport you there. However please note that the guide and driver will not be available to take you back to your hotel after your night time shopping and you will be required to make your own way back to you hotel. However the guide will inform you of the best location to locate and board a taxi or tuk tuk back to your hotel.
