Four days will be enough to take in all the essential attractions of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. On this 4-day package tour, you will do a mini trek through the jungle, visit Karen ethnic hill tribes, visit the famed Golden Triangle meeting points of Laos, Burma, and Thailand. These are just a few of the highlights that you will experience on this four-day package tour from Chiang Mai.
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Day 1 - Chiang Mai City Culture Tour
First day and an early start! We will get out into the city early to catch the monks go about their morning alms rounds. You will get to see the lively city of Chiang Mai at this early hour as the city's population goes about its morning business. Amongst the hustle of the morning market, you will get to offer alms (make food offerings) to the monks as they go about their morning alms round. The next part of the morning tour will be to take the winding road up the mountain to Chiang Mai's most prominent and important Temple Doi Suthep. In the morning you will enjoy a more calm and cool visit to this spectacular temple as you will miss the tourist crowds and avoid the heat of the day. After the temple, you will head down the mountain where you will be provided with a local breakfast. After breakfast, we will take in a couple more of the cities interesting temples. You will see Wat Chedi Luang which was once Chiang Mai's highest structure and we will see Wat Srisuphan which is at the heart of the silver-making area on Wualia Rd. Our final stop of the day will be a Warorot Market to see firsthand one of the commercial areas frequented by locals in their droves to purchase fresh and dried food items of all descriptions. As you were awake at an early hour you may be ready to be returned to your hotel this can be arranged however if you did want to extend your tour into the afternoon we can arrange a visit to the Chiang Mai Art and Culture Museum. This local museum lies at the heart of Chiang Mai. Various exhibits are offered in this recently refurbished museum detailing the historic Lanna way of life.
Evening
On this first evening, you will be taken to Chiang Mai's Old Cultural Center for traditional northern Thai food as well as traditional Thai and hill tribe dance shows.
Day 2 - Mini Trek in Mae Wang
You will be picked up from your Chiang Mai hotel and we will make our way out of the city up into the hills of the Mae Wang area. If you are taking this tour on a Saturday we will stop by at the colorful weekly Sanpatong buffalo market. Our first stop will be at the elephant camp where you will spend an hour with the elephants. You will get to feed the elephants and bathe them in the river. We will then proceed to a Karen village where you can take some time to see the village before we commence the trek we will trek or around 1.5 hours from the Karen village through the rice paddies and forest to Mae Wang Waterfall. If conditions allow, feel free to take a swim in the waters at the base of these falls. After lunch, it will be time to take to the river on simple bamboo rafts. be prepared as you will likely get wet as the bamboo rafts make their way downriver. At the end of the rafting, you will be picked up by the waiting transport and transferred back to Chiang Mai.
*Note: The Karen village on this tour is the Karen ethnic group and not the Karen Long Neck group!
Day 3 - Doi Inthanon National Park
The third day of this tour will be spent in Doi Inthanon National Park. Before embarking on our trip into the park we will stop at Wat Prathat Sri Chom Tong an important temple in the area housing Buddhist relics. We will continue the drive to the summit of Doi Inthanon the highest mountain in Thailand on the route we will stop at the King and Queen Chedi's to enjoy the great views that these mountainside chedi's offer over the park. You will get to see two of Inthanon's most spectacular cascading waterfalls (Siritharn and Wachiritharn), A Karen hill tribe village, the Royal project research station and we will take a refreshing nurture walk at an altitude of around 2500 meters where the flora and faunas are unique and the air deliciously cool. On the way down the mountain will stop by a local Hmong hill tribe market and check out some of the produce they grow within the bound of the national park.
Day 4 - Chiang Rai and Golden Triangle
On the final day of this 4-day package, we will head north out of Chiang Mai to take in the famous sites that Chiang Rai has to offer. The first stop will be for our morning coffee at Mae Khajan hot springs feel free to boil an egg or two in the steaming hot spring water. The next stop will be to the stunning Wat Rong Khun an immaculate intricate white temple inlaid with mirrored glass. We will then make our way to Chiang Saen which was once an important northern Thai Kingdom and trading post situated on the banks of the mighty Mekong River We will make a stop at Wat Chedi Luang one of the old and best-preserved temples from the Chiang Saen period. From Chiang Saen, you will get the chance to take a long tail boat ride on the Mekong to get a closer view of Burma as well as making a stop on the Laos side of the border on Don Sao Island. At the Golden triangle, you can view Laos. Burma and Thailand are from the same point across the Mekong. Following our visit to the Golden triangle, we will make our way to Thailand's most northerly point and take a walk around the busy Mae Sai border market. On our way back to Chiang Mai we will stop by to see Yao, Akha, and if you choose the option a Karen long neck village.
Note: You will be required to show your original passport if you want to take the boat ride on the Mekong to the Laos side. Please bring this with you if you want to take this option.

From the beginning of 2015 a passport will be required if you want to take the Mekong boat trip to the Laos island of Don Xao (before a passport was not required) Please bring your passport if you want to do this option. Please also note that no exit or entry visas will be stamped in your passport and if you do cross onto the island of Don Xao your Thai visa will be unaffected.
On this tour we can arrange a short crossing into Burma from the Thai town of Mae Sai. On the Burmese side there is a bustling border market where you can spend 30-45 minutes. For the Crossing you will require your passport and a Burmese visa which is available at the Burmese immigration post and can be obtained on the day (current price is 500 baht/person). Please note that if you do cross into Burma your current Thai visa will be cancelled. On crossing back to Thailand you will be stamped with a 15 day visa only. Please ensure that 15 days is enough to cover the rest of your holiday plans in Thailand.
A Tourist Authority of Thailand licensed and English speaking guide will be provided. Other languages are available on request. we provide separate drivers and you guide will not be driving the vehicle.

You are likely to get wet during the bamboo rafting, bathing the elephants and if conditions allow it is sometimes possible to swim at the waterfall. Please bring a swim suit.
