The center of shopping is undoubtedly
the Night Bazaar. Every evening Chang Klan road
comes alive with countless pavement stalls and handicraft
centers selling a myriad of goods at knock down
prices, but be sure to bargain hard! |

Sunday Walking Street Market
A relatively new addition to the Chiang
Mai shopping scene. This market sets up o¬an a Sunday
reclaiming the main streets through the old city
for a pedestrian shoppers paradise. Not only are
there a wonderful array of local handicrafts and
clothes on offer here, various entertainments are
provided throughout the market adding to the flavour.
Feeling puckish? Well don't worry, just make your
way to one of the temples along the way where you
will have an endless choice of Thai favorites at
very cheap prices! |

Saturday walking Street market
Smaller but very similar to the Sunday
Walking Street Market. This market sets itself up
at around 4pm Saturday afternoon. If you are not
going to be here for the Sunday market then this
is the next best thing. |

Sankampaeng and Bosang
Those serious about buying Thai handicrafts
should arrange a morning trip to San Kamphaeng in
the east. Traditionally the Chiang Mai handicrafts
industry has based itself here and if you're buying
in bulk significant savings can be made. Don't forget
to check out the village of Borsang famous for its
colorful umbrellas. |

Baan Tawai
Check out this area south of Chiang
Mai. Here you will find many factories and outlets
specializing in wood carvings and antiques but again
you will find a whole range of handicrafts for sale
here. At most outlets you will be buying direct
from the manufacturer so you can be assured of a
good buy. This is why many traders and exporters
will buy here. |

Chiang Mai local markets
As well as the well established tourist
and handicraft markets Chiang Mai is littered with
Local markets. Selling the diverse range of goods
needed for everyday living in Thailand. These are
worth a visit just for the sights, sounds and aromas
even if buying isn't on the agenda. One worth a
visit in Chiang Mai is Warawrot market at the top
of Chiang Mao road near the Ping River. Fresh fruit,
dried food stuffs, clothes and lots lots more feature
here in an indoor multilevel market area. If you
want to experience some real Chiang Mai street food
this is a good place to come in the evenings as
food vendors set up along the street here. |

Airport Plaza
The most modern shopping plaza in
Chiang Mai and extended a couple of years back doubling
its retail space. A good mixture of standalone and
department stores selling the usual products. There
is also a Lana themed area selling art and crafts
and dried foodstuffs. A multi screen cinema is also
included on the upper floors showing a mixture of
the latest Thai and English sound tracked Hollywood
movie. |

Kad Suan Kaew
Older but more character than the
Airport Plaza this place is very popular with teenagers
and university students at the weekends. The usual
mix of department stores, name brand stores and
restaurants. There is also a multi-screen cinema
on the upper floors. |

Panthip Plaza
Electronics plaza selling all things
computer related as well as a good selection of
digital camera shops and camera accessories. A good
place to pick up an MP3 player, memory cards or
even a new camera. |
