Chiang Mai Climbing |

|
|
Although Chiang Mai can’t complete
with the likes of Krabi for variety in its
climbing it still provides some challenging
routes in spectacular scenery and in a cooler
climate to boot. The main climbing destination
and easily the most accessible from Chiang
Mai is Crazy Horse Buttress which offers well
over 100 bolted routes on limestone cliffs.
Situated about 40km east of Chiang Mai beyond
the town of Sankampeng near the small farming
town of Mae On. The turn off to the crag itself
can be found on the left a couple of kilometers
before the turn of to Sankampeng Hot Springs |
| Trips out to crazy horse buttress
can be arranged through the travel Hub or
with one of the specialist climbing operators
in Chiang Mai. If you want to head out there
on your own there are many places around town
you can hire a car or motorbike. Motorbikes
start at about 150 baht per day and car rental
from 700 baht/day. |

Artificial
climbing wall Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai was once the home to one of
the biggest artificial climbing walls in
Asia – The Peak, situated just off Chan
Klan Road behind the night bazaar however
due to an accident early in 2008 this has
unfortunately been destroyed by fire. |
