Elephant Conservation Center - Lampang

Overview

Lampang's Elephant Conservation Center promotes the conservation and care of the Asian elephant. There are a number of ways to see and get involved with the elephants here. Three times daily at 10:00am, 11:00am and 1:30pm an elephant show is put on in the main arena with elephant bathing taking place at 09:45am and 1:15pm before the elephant shows. Elephant Riding is available between the hours of 08:00am and 3:30pm. Along with the elephant shows and bathing The Elephant Conservation Center also runs single and multi day residential mahout courses allowing you to really get up close and to learn about these elephants. The overnight course include meals and accommodation in well equipped wood and bamboo bungalows as well as instruction on the riding and handling of the elephants. The Elephant Conservation Center is also home to the Elephant Hospital for injured and sick elephants.

Location and Visiting The Elephant Conservation Center

The Elephant Conservation Center is situated about 60km south of Chiang Mai and 40km north of Lampang on highway 11. If you are taking public transport from Chiang Mai you will need to make you way to Chiang Mai's Arcade Bus Station. You will need to take one of the Chiang Mai to Lampang buses which are usually green in colour. These buses are fan only. Tell the driver/conductor that you want to get off at The Elephant Conservation Center as there is no designated stop there but all the Chiang Mai/Lampang buses will be happy to stop (and pick up) outside the center gates. Alternatively you can arrange private transport in Chiang Mai, The Travel Hub are happy to supply a car and driver for your trip there. Please contact us for more details. If you are interested in the mahout residential courses book ahead as these usually need to be pre-booked due to limited space.
