CHIANG SAEN OVERVIEW
Situated on the banks of the mighty Mekong River Chiang Saen was once the site of an imprtant Thai Kingdom. Around town you can still see plenty of the remnatnts and ruins of this kingdom including chedi, Buddha images and earthen city ramparts.Worthy stops to see some of these ruins are at Wat Chedi Luang dating from the 12th to 14th Century, Wat Pa Sak where the ruins of seven monuments can be seen, Wat Phra That Chom Kitti and Wat Chom Chang which sit at the top of a hill and afford some good views of the town of Chiang Saen and the Mekong River. From Chiang Sean Mekong river boat trips can be arranged to Sop Ruak (Golden triangle) and even all the way down to Chiang Kong. |

VISITING CHIANG SAEN
Visiting Chiang Saen from Chiang Mai
If you do not have your own transport then it is possible to take a direct bus from Chiang mai's main arcade Bus Station however even goin the fastes route this will take around 5 hours and therefore not worthy of considering a day trip by bus. If you want to visit Chiang Saen in a day then consider taking the one day Chiang rai Tour from Chiang Mai which also stops in at other locations of interest such as the Golden triangle and Mae Sai
